This creative super food breakfast bowl is without-a-doubt one of my favorite things to make on a lazy Saturday morning. I have a major sweet tooth and am always looking for sneaky ways to add chocolate into my meals–the cacao in this recipe does the trick. Quinoa and hemp are considered to be complete proteins–chockfull of essential amino acids, antioxidants and minerals. The additional of super foods like cacao and acai or goji berries takes the nutritional value of this bowl even further.

It’s not the quickest meal to whip up, which is why I like saving it for the weekend. We recommend making your own hemp milk for this, because it’s not only really delicious, but you will have leftover to enjoy for the next couple of days. And P.S… It’s chocolate! Here’s how you make a delicious Cacao & Hemp Quinoa Breakfast Bowl:

Ingredients for Hemp Milk
4 cups filtered water
1 cup hemp seeds
1/4 cup raw cacao
Pinch of sea salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
4 medjool dates

Instructions for Hemp Milk
1. Place all of the ingredients in a high-speed blender, blend until smooth and creamy. You can keep it creamy like this–as I did, which has maximum nutritional value–or you can strain using a nut milk bag or layered cheese cloths for a thinner consistency. Store in your fridge, in an airtight container for 3-5 days. Makes approximately 1 quart.

Ingredients for Quinoa Bowl
3/4-1 cup cooked quinoa, warm
1 cup cacao hemp milk (or any nondairy milk)
1/2 banana, sliced
1 tsp dried super food berries (acai, goji, mulberries)
1 tsp cacao nibs
1 tsp hemp seeds
Cinnamon

Optional Sweeteners: Maple Syrup, Agave, Brown Sugar, Coconut Sugar (I used agave)

Instructions for Quinoa Bowl
1. Add the warm quinoa to your serving bowl
2. Pour hemp milk over it
3. Add your toppings
4. Adjust to taste with sweetener and cinnamon
